The season of Lent is a time of preparation for Holy Week and Easter. Lent lasts for 40 days, not counting Sundays, and starts on Ash Wednesday and ends the day before the great Christian festival Easter. It is traditionally a time when Christians undertake Bible study or perhaps join a prayer group or try to discipline themselves in some way, such as fasting from a favourite food. The emphasis is on the soul as people prepare to reflect on the passion and death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Walking through the Labyrinth at Houchen House, Hamilton, is a popular prayer or meditation exercise for those who go there for a Retreat.
